Division of Public Health | College of Human Medicine
Public Health Focus/Interests:
Previously, Dr. Hamilton worked as a senior epidemiologist for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, where she analyzed claims data in support of value-based payment programs. Prior to that, she worked for the Bureau of Epidemiology at the Michigan Department of Community Health. At MDCH, she focused on surveillance of HIV disease and was a leader in epidemiological analyses and implementation of electronic laboratory reporting of HIV. Her last role was as manager of the HIV Surveillance and Body Art Facility Licensing Unit (body art includes tattoos and piercings). While earning her doctorate, her graduate studies focused on assessing the direction of antimicrobial resistant bacteria transmission between veterinary healthcare providers and companion animals (people and their pets!).
Dr. Hamilton works with the MSU College of Human Medicine Shared Discovery Curriculum (implemented in 2016). She contributed public health content for the Just In Time Medicine resource, precepted during the Epidemiology intersession, and co-designed and instructed during the Health Systems Complexities and Population Vulnerabilities intersession.
Dr. Hamilton has researched, published, and presented on HIV, zoonotic disease (transmitted from animals to people), epidemiology, and comparative epidemiology, with a focus on the transmission of antimicrobial resistance between people and companion animals.
