Wayne McCullough PhotoPublic Health Focus/Interests:

Prior to joining MSU, Dr. McCullough co-directed the University of Michigan Society 2030 Business/Academic collaborative which sought to identify issues (public health, technology, and workforce) that could be addressed through combined resources. Dr. McCullough also served as the managing director for the Office for Health Equity & Inclusion at the University of Michigan Health System. His research interests include how communications can help advance under-served communities and population health.

Professional Experience/Expertise:

Managing Director, Office for Health Equity and Inclusion, University of Michigan Health System

  • Direct the full complement of pipeline training and climate improvement programs for the office which encompasses the UMHS.
  • Direct research focused upon reducing health disparities.
  • Develop grants with an emphasis on training and mentoring (U54 and HCOP).

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Senior Project Manager, University of Michigan Heath System

  • Develop the strategy for the Health System Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) plan, which represents half of the overall University plan.
  • Develop the short-term practices, metrics and communications that lead to transformation of UMHS workforce and patient care environments.

Co-director of the Society 2030 Consortium Initiative (jointly sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research)

  • Developed and implemented four quarter two-day meetings over each of three years to strategize implications of demographic and technological changes for external business partners and academics from across the university.

Associate Director of Research Administration for the Program for Research on Black Americans

  • Developed strategic plan for next phase of 35-year-old social research organization, including strategic communications to enhance branding and funding opportunities.

Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Institute for Social Research

  • Developed sponsorship relationships between corporate organizations and the Program in Survey Methodology which provided funding for students.
  • Developed funding sources for ISR researchers within and outside the university.

 

Professional Activities or Current Research:

Dr. McCullough has conducted research on nephrotic syndrome, a disease which disproportionately affects African-Americans; help seeking among African-American men on mental health issues; and most recently conducted research on perceptions of everyday discrimination among African-American men.

Current memberships include: American Psychological Association; Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychologists; American Marketing Association; Past-President and member Board of Directors of the Marketing Research Institute International; American Association of Public Opinion Research (AAPOR); American Public Health Association
