 Future Plans:

Tokie completed her practicum at the Ingham County Health Department, Division of Health Promotion & Prevention in Lansing, MI. This is where she was a part of a coalition that helped to plan outreach activities in order to prevent smoking among people living with HIV & also among pregnant women.

After earning her MPH degree, she plans to work in the public health field, specifically in health promotion and prevention, epidemiology or disease prevention.

 Future Plans:

Amanda has contemplated furthering her education and going back to school for a nursing degree to become a public health nurse. She hopes to find work in an infectious disease and substance use field. She has recently submitted an abstract for the AIDS 2020 conference and has submitted as first author a manuscript for publication in the Journal of Viral Hepatitis. Her current role is with the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Manuel is currently working on water issues, but he would like to research and develop new and better models of action and interaction between healthcare and public health, for the well-being of the population.

Future Plans:

Erika is currently employed by MSU Extension, training and supporting community nutrition instructors across the state as they offer nutrition education to low-income audiences. She plans to apply for an educator position where she can further grow within MSU Extension, working on curricula development for direct education and policy, systems, and environmental change efforts.

 Future Plans:

Kaushal is currently a healthcare professional working in rural area as a family physician. In his practice, they focus on taking care of people on an individual level. He finds it challenging to manage health-risk behaviors at individual level when these risks or diseases are strongly linked with exposure to environment.

Kaushal believes that having earned an MPH gives him a wider perspective allowing him to look at health problems from a public health perspective. He has learned to apply preventative strategies for public health in collaboration with healthcare for better individual care.
He plans to apply his knowledge of public health in his practice.

Future Plans:

As a public health practitioner, Kelsey hopes to improve accessibility and awareness of healthy eating and exercise techniques among disadvantaged populations. At this time, she is applying for program positions in the field of family nutrition and physical activity education.

 Future Plans:

Megan is planning to apply to PhD programs in public health for the 2021-2022 academic year. She currently works in finance for a large healthcare company and loves the work that she does. However, she has the opportunity to begin part-time, grant-funded work with Karmanos Cancer Institute as a research consultant and plans to start that work soon. She will be helping to design an intervention/education program for cancer caregivers who are part of the LGBT+ community in Metro Detroit. After graduation, she will also be completing the requirements for MSU's graduate certificate in community engagement.

Future Plans:

Matthew currently has a few possible job offers: one with the Michigan DNR as an environmental analyst and the others with Henry Ford Health System in both their division of public health and their division of environmental sustainability.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, however, Matthew feels his skill set is more valuable to the community working as a front-line healthcare provider (paramedic), so until there is a better grasp on the pandemic, he does not plan to immediately seek alternate employment in the public health field (but expects to within the next 6 months).

Future Plans:

"The burden of disease caused by public health problems especially mental illness in the United States is increasing. Almost millions of people live with a serious mental illness and receive no prevention or treatment services at all. It also includes children who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and are unable to receive early treatment intervention services for ASD due to certain socioeconomic barriers. The availability of such services and resources remains a critical necessity that must be supported by policymaking and substantial funding allocation." - Dr. Daniayl Shamim

In the future, Daniayl is planning to provide services for individuals or communities with severe mental illnesses using his background of medicine and public health.

Future Plans:

Before entering the MPH program at MSU, Kara was working as a medical laboratory scientist at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids. With the completion of her degree she is looking into a new career direction in the public health field using both her background of medical laboratory science and her newly acquired education.

Future Plans:

Fatima plans to apply for jobs in the field of medicine, specifically searching for clinic or hospitalist positions, and intends to incorporate her MPH knowledge into her everyday work as a physician.

Currently, Nicole does not have plans to pursue further education. In the future, she hopes to one day move to the field of emergency management, but does not have current plans to change employment.
