Lauren O'Connell, MD, MSc, is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician practicing at Hurley Children's Clinic in Flint, Michigan. She is a founding member of the Pediatric Public Health Initiative of Flint and committed to community-driven research. 

Dr. O'Connell completed a fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and has particular clinical expertise in the evaluation of the motor, cognitive, language, and social-emotional domains of development in children from infancy through adolescence, as well as the assessment and treatment of child behavioral problems. She works closely with the Genesee Health System Autism Evaluation Center to identify children with autism and connect them with needed resources. Her autism-related research focuses on medical education and health delivery systems.

In addition, she has advanced research training including a Masters of Science in Health Services Research, through which she developed expertise in clinical research methods, community engagement, survey design, and intervention evaluation. Her research has focused on: 1) community-driven interventions within pediatric primary care to promote effective and positive parenting behaviors within low income, ethnically diverse families in order to improve early child development, 2) education of pediatric primary care providers and early child educators in the principles and practice of effective parenting behaviors in order to support and empower parents within the community; and 3) community-engaged research to systematically assess the neurodevelopment of children in Flint.
